The workshop

Five hours in the wet lab, from principle to practice

A focused, hands on CO₂ laser workshop for the airway clinician. Roughly one hour of lecture flows into three hours of guided, hands on instruction, built around three things you can bring straight into practice.

01

Frenectomy

Technique for tongue, lip, and buccal ties.

02

Soft palate

Non ablative treatment aimed at collagen remodeling and tissue tightening, which may help reduce the soft palate vibration behind snoring.

03

Laser fundamentals

Laser tissue interaction, safety, and real world clinical implementation.

The certification curriculum, developed by the American Laser Study Club, covers the physics of soft tissue ablation and coagulation, how surgical lasers differ from hot tip devices, and how wavelength, power, technique, and tissue interaction shape cutting, coagulation, hemostasis, and thermal effect.

What you will learn

Objectives and hands on skills

In the lecture, you will be able to

  • Explain the clinical difference between ablative and non ablative CO₂ laser use
  • Select the right laser principles and settings for frenectomy and non ablative soft palate procedures
  • Describe how CO₂ laser energy interacts with soft tissue
  • Connect laser settings and technique to incision depth and coagulation depth
  • Describe the roles of ablation, coagulation, and hemostasis in soft tissue surgery
  • Understand the histology and principles behind non ablative tissue remodeling
  • Recognize the key laser safety considerations for airway focused procedures
  • Apply these concepts to treatment planning and procedural technique

In the hands on labs, you will practice

  • Laser safety and equipment handling
  • Frenectomy simulations
  • Non ablative technique
  • Superficial ablation
  • Shallow and deep incisions
  • Coagulation and hemostasis
  • Surgical technique simulations
  • Work on tissue samples and a pig jaw
