AHS Intermediate Pediatric Mini- Residency

Pediatric Airway Health Integration Course
with Dr. Jenna Schwibner
April 10 & 24, 2026 @ 8:45 AM ET
Prerequisite: Completion of the AHS Pediatric Mini-Residency with Dr. Ben Miraglia
Recognizing airway patterns in children is the first step.
Applying treatment confidently and competently is the next.
The AHS Intermediate Pediatric Mini-Residency with Dr. Jenna Schwibner is designed for clinicians who have completed Dr. Ben Miraglia’s Pediatric Mini-Residency and want continued guidance implementing these principles in practice.
Many clinicians begin treating patients during Dr. Ben Miraglia’s course. This program builds on that strong clinical foundation by providing additional case discussion, treatment planning guidance, and implementation support as providers continue developing their pediatric airway skills.
Dr. Jenna Schwibner has completed the full Airway Health Solutions educational pathway and has translated that training into structured systems and protocols within her own airway-focused practice.
In this course, she shares how she applies AHS principles in daily clinical care—helping providers move from airway knowledge to clear treatment planning, confident decision-making, and consistent clinical implementation.
Through real case discussions and expander design reviews, participants will learn how to evaluate growth, determine when intervention is appropriate, and sequence treatment using guides, expanders, reverse pull headgear when indicated, and collaboration with myofunctional therapy.
With the right framework, clinicians can recognize pediatric airway cases earlier, communicate treatment clearly with families, and guide parents toward treatment decisions with greater confidence.
Practices that integrate airway-focused evaluation often see stronger treatment acceptance and growing interest from families seeking this level of care. Many parents travel significant distances to practices that provide comprehensive airway evaluation and treatment.
This course provides a clear roadmap for evaluating growth, planning treatment, and managing pediatric airway orthodontic cases for children ages 3–12.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Evaluate pediatric patients for airway-related orthodontic patterns across early, mixed, and pre-teen dentition
Determine when to intervene and when to monitor growth using an airway-focused clinical framework
Plan and sequence treatment using guides, expanders, and reverse pull headgear when indicated
Integrate orthodontic care with myofunctional therapy through collaboration with OMT and TTR providers
Communicate airway findings clearly with parents to improve understanding and treatment acceptance
Apply expansion strategies that support healthy craniofacial growth and reduce the need for premolar extractions
Confidently plan and manage pediatric airway orthodontic cases in everyday practice

Explore language to unpack the complexity Sleep Apnea’s severity metrics: AHI, RDI, REI, the many definitions of hypopnea, obstructive vs central sleep apnea.
Recognize the nuanced language that goes into the discussion of individual risk associated with Sleep Apnea and know how to collaboratively apply this language with your patients.
Comprehend the complexity of the underlying pathophysiology of Sleep Apnea, by breaking apart the “many moving parts” of obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea and seeing how they relate to one another.
Implement a patient-centered approach to understand and clarify a patient's sleep-wake complaints by establishing their narrative.
Comprehend and critically evaluate the many different testing options for the diagnosis of Sleep Apnea,
Comprehend and critically evaluate the many different options available for the treatment of Sleep Apnea, including a discussion of emerging options, like INSPIRE and EXCITE.
Comprehend and clinically integrate basic science concepts of the regulation of sleep-wake signaling (an introduction to the Two Process Model). This objective will include a practical working knowledge of the complexity sensemaking tool: The Circadian Rhythmo-Wheel.
Identify and triage common complications of therapy, including positive airway pressure toxicity, Willis Ekbom Disease (“restless legs syndrome”) and treatment emergent central sleep apnea.
Apply the patient-centered collaborative complexity sensemaking tool, the "Five Finger Approach," to unpack nonspecific sleep-wake complaints.
Deploy strategies of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), such as proactive wind-down time, sleep restriction therapy, stimulus control therapy, and chronotherapy.
